Brie Norton and Lynsey Phillips were back at GFESC today with two very I nformative workshops. This morning they taught Hands on AAC: Supporting Learners with Complex Needs which helped participants create lessons that support AAC users in achieving authentic communication. This afternoon they taught Assistive Touch Technology in the Classroom which offered an in-depth introduction to assistive technology. Thank you both for your participation this week!

Elizabeth Reeves held a workshop on campus today about Dyslexia Legislation, Rules, and Dyslexia Resource Guide Updates. It provided an in-depth overview of the updated Dyslexia Resource Guide, including screening, intervention strategies, and compliance with Arkansas Law. Thank you Elizabeth!

Today at GFESC, Karen Grady led a session on Elevating Elementary Instruction with AI Tools. It was tailored for elementary teachers seeking to enhance their instruction utilizing AI tools. Participants explored how AI can help create dynamic activities and lessons that align with High Quality Instructional Materials.

And that's a wrap on the 2nd Annual GFESC Novice Teacher Conference! We saw over 400 educators in the last 3 days and had amazing presenters from around the state. 
A huge shoutout to the Lavaca Public School District for hosting the conference this week. 





Getting started with AAC can be extremely overwhelming! This morning's workshop introduced participants to a variety of AAC systems and access methods. They also explored how to select the right system, determine an appropriate vocabulary, and how to acquire a device through an evaluation. This afternoon, participants learned the foundational components necessary to effectively teach using AAC devices. We had the pleasure of having Robin Stripling on the GFESC campus today. She led a workshop on Fostering Inclusion: Best Practices for Supporting Students with Disabilities. The American Heart Association's BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an AED. Motivational Interviewing is a conversational style used to motivate individuals to change behaviors and develop healthy habits that align with their values. We had a collaborative workshop exploring the new Computer Science standards today at GFESC. They engaged in guided discussions and explored how AI tools can enhance your planning process. Participants left with practical strategies and dedicated planning time to implement these standards in their classrooms.
